Common Challenges for Families

Starting a family has very unique challenges as both women and men are preparing their bodies for not only the miracle of birth, but also all of the care and responsibility of taking care of their child. This can have both physical and mental challenges.

1. Fertility & Conception

Infertility is defined as the inability to become pregnant after one year of trying to conceive. It can result from age or a variety of different medical issues including age, STDs, weight, hormone imbalances, medications, environmental hazard exposure, drugs and alcohol.

In many cases, the cause may not be identified at all. However, there are many breakthrough treatments available that can improve fertility.

For example obesity can play a major role with infertility and restoring the body to a point where conception has a greater chance of occuring involves a shift in lifestyle and ensuring that hormones are balanced.

2. In-Utero

Maintaining the health of both the mother and the unborn child throughout pregnancy is something that families are a lot more aware of these days. The impact of a mother (and fathers) lifestyle during both pre-conception and conception stage plays a role in the development of a foetus. This can be a challenging time if not managed properly before and during conception.

3. Pospartum Care

Women find that they face a variety of challenges after their child is born. These may be due to changes in hormones or simply due to the lack of nourishment and rest they are receiving. Ensuring that a mother is healthy also ensures that her child receives the right support during the early stages of their lives.

Partners also play a major role and ensuring their health at every stage also ensures that the child will have the best possible support structure in place when entering the world.

We now know that a fathers lifestyle pre-conception can affect the susceptibilities of their child to various illness and disease equally as much as a mother. We also know that fathers suffer from post-natal depression as well due to the shift and changes that a new child can bring.
